Styles of Popular Music

*Introduction

Music is worldwide language. It varies from different time and space. Popular music has been popular for a century.

*Thesis Statement

Three of the more successful styles are reggae, punk, and rap.

*Body:

A. Reggae:
1. born on Caribbean island of Jamaica.
2. musicians added hesitation beat that called ska.
3. reverse the roles of instruments.
4. well-known groups such as Burning Spear, etc.

B. Punk:
1. began in the mid-1970s as a reaction against previous forms of rock
2. special clothing and hairstyles.
3. punk music is simple.
4.. the first bands is Sex Pistols.

C. Rap:
1. originated in Africa.
2. appeared in the mid-1970s in the disco in the U.S.A.
3. mainly about dancing, partying in early years.
4. politics became an important theme in rap in 1980s and 1990s.
5. most rappers are black males, but there are still some exceptions.

*Conclusion:
Everything changes constantly, pop music is no exception. New styles are born, grow, change, and produce offshoots, they influence each other.
